Action
India decided to take up the issue of reconstruction of homes as the
mainstay of their intervention in Gujarat. The aim was to construct
scientific, qualitative and cost-effective earthquake resistant structures
right from inception so that subsequent additions shall continue to
provide protection from earthquakes in the seismic zone V, Gujarat.
Action India worked in 48 villages in Kutch area disseminating food
and clothes to those affected and constructed 340 huts for the earthquake
affected villages. The largest of the structures built by Action India
was a Maternity & Child Care Centre at New Dudhai,
Gujarat handed over to the ‘Rashtriya Swabhiman trust’ Gujarat. The Interlocking Block Design was the brain child of the architect Mr
Anil Laul that Action India comissioned to do the project used here
were nominated for the Design Sense Award, U.K in the Sustainable
Design Award 2001 competing against Motorola, Philip, and Honda in
finals.
We are confident that our ideas will leave behind a meaningful solution
for the Gujarat region, create job opportunities & empower the
people of Kutch to reestablish building their houses
