Action India has
organized and been part of various fund raising events to provide
support to the different organizations working in the field of HIV/AIDS.
Nafisa Ali, Chairperson, Action India was part of a fund
raising event along with actor- activist Richard Gere and
socialite Bina Ramani. The event witnessed auction of dresses donated
by designers to raise money for those infected and affected by HIV.
The proceeds of the event were donated to Sahara’s Michael
Care Home, a hospice providing care and support to people living
with HIV/AIDS. A substantial part of the proceedings was also donated
to ‘The Chest Institute’ to upgrade their wards.
Action India organized a Charity
Ball for AIDS Awareness
in March 2000. The charity ball was a forum for the corporate to express
their solidarity and unflinching support to Action India commitment
towards giving dignity, respect and care to people living with HIV/AIDS.
With the proceedings of the event, Action India helped set up 12 bedded
facilities for NAZ foundation’s HIV/AIDS care home. Action India
provided majority of the infrastructure needed for the ten-bedded
care home.
Action India organized a painting exhibition of
more than 40 prominent Indian artists in April’2000. The
proceeds and earning from the sales of the painting was for Action
India’s Holistic AIDS Care Center.
Action India organized a charity special screening of the film ‘LOC-
Kargil’ by Mr. J.P. Dutta followed by dinner in the
month of December 2003 to raise funds for providing care to HIV
positive people.
Action India organized a screening of the film ‘A
Closer Walk’ by Oscar Nominated Robert Bilheimer. The film
is an extremely humane and warm – hearted, filled with
patients, dedicated caregivers, and passionate advocates giving
an overview of the AIDS scourge around the world. The film, screened
in April, 2004 promoted awareness about HIV and the needs of those
living with HIV to help people understand the plight of HIV positive
people around the world. |
