Prevention is
important where HIV/AIDS is concerned. The best means of achieving
prevention of HIV/AIDS is through all round awareness of the spread
of the virus. Action India has been working sincerely in this area
of spreading awareness at all levels of the society. Different programs
on HIV/AIDS have been running since 2000. The following is a brief
gist of those programs
AIDS
Awareness Programme: Action India and All
India Shakti Vahini Foundation organized a procession at GB Road
on World AIDS day, 2000, to bring light of information, awareness
and education on HIV/AIDS issues to the sex workers. The program
involved screening of a documentary film on HIV/AIDS and distribution
of leaflets, stickers and other informative material on HIV/AIDS,
promoting the use of condoms and prevention of sexually transmitted
infections including STI
Action India organizes regular meetings
and workshops with the masses to spread awareness on
HIV/AIDS and prevention programs at the community level. Four
such camps were organized on large scale with over 1000 people
attending each program.
Training
Programmes: Action India in collaboration
with Immunus Aurobindo (a leading pharmaceuticals company) organized
a daylong doctors training program on HIV/AIDS at India Habitat
Center. The participating doctors were from leading hospitals
such as All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Safdurjung hospital,
Batra, TB Hospital, RML. The total numbers of participants were
20. The participants were given training on new drug therapy,
Mother to child transmission, HIV testing, and the importance
of counseling.

Short films on HIV/AIDS
aired on leading television channels
A film made on HIV/AIDS titled ‘ Chakravyuh’ produced
by renowned film director ‘ Mike Pandey’ and conceived
by Nafisa Ali
Advertisements
on prevention & education
of HIV/AIDS by IndianCricketers on major television
channels. The advertisement titled ‘ The world
is in your hands’ was subsequently converted into 35 mm & shown
at cinema theatres in Delhi & Madras
